Spanning
twenty seven years of the silent film era in early "Hollywoodland",
Mack and Mabel recalls the bitter-sweet love
affair between Mack Sennett and the heroine
of his movies, Mabel Normand through the funny
and fabulous world of pies in the face, Keystone Kops and Bathing
Beauties. Directed by Valerie Easton, with
music direction by Alex McLeod.
The magnificent score written by Jerry Herman
(Hello Dolly, Mame, La Cage Aux Follies, Dear World)
includes Movies Were Movies, Big Time, I Won't Send Roses,
Hundreds of Girls, Time Heals Everything and Tap Your
Troubles Away. The show opened on Broadway in 1974 starring
Robert Preston and Bernadette Peters, but surprisingly only
ran sixty six performances.
APPLAUSE! Musicals in Concert presents rare,
shelved and forgotten musicals "on book", staged with
a full cast/chorus and minimal production & technical elements. |

APPLAUSE!
Musicals In Concert presents The Baker's Wife.
Music & Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Book by Joseph Stein.
Directed by Peter Jorgensen, with Music Direction
by Kevin Michael Cripps.
A new baker arrives in a rural French village just in time to
ease the hunger of the bickering villagers who have been without
bread for weeks. All is well until his beautiful young wife
runs off with the local hunk, driving the baker to distraction,
and leaving the villagers breadless - again.
Having
closed before reaching Broadway in 1976, The Baker's
Wife features a ravishing score about love, lust, revenge,
and bread by Stephen Schwartz who has contributed
music and/or lyrics to Godspell, Pippin, The Magic Show,
Working, Personals, Rags and Children of Eden.
He has also collaborated on the scores for the films Pocahontas
& The Hunchback of Notre Dame and wrote the
songs for The Prince of Egypt. The Baker's
Wife book writer, Joseph Stein also
wrote the book for Fiddler On The Roof, Rags, Zorba, Irene,
Juno, Mr. Wonderful and Plain and Fancy. |

It's
fun, light, and perfect for a family audience... and every audience.
If you missed Honk! you've another chance to
visit your favourite barnyard characters at the Arts Club Granville
Island Stage. Under new direction, experience a reminiscently
close yet new perspective on this transformation of the classic
Hans Christian Andersons' timeless tale into a loveable
musical comedy staged in a duck pond.
The story unfolds through an enchanting musical
arrangement of foot-tapping numbers such as Different,
Hold Your Head Up High, and Warts & All,
all driving our hero on a journey to find himself and where
he belongs in the world. Surrounded by adventures at every
turn, he meets a variety of enthusiastic, yet eclectic characters,
each teaching him more about life and who he really is, delivering
one powerful message... believe in yourself! "It
may be a 'poultry tale' and seem feather light but under the
duck pond-like service run themes important to kids and grownups
alike" - Jo Ledingham - Vancouver Courier.
This magical tale will entertain you through
its colourful, larger-than-life, cartoon like atmosphere,
engaging the young and old with its honest and pure tales
of childhood and growing up. Honk! was no
competition for Britain's prestigious Olivier Award for Best
New Musical.
Under the new direction of Sylvia
Hosie, she is joined by returning Choreographer,
Dana Kosalko-Harris, and Musical Director,
Kevin-Michael Cripps. With costume designs
by Christina Sinosich and lighting design
by Paul Neumeyer, "this story is sure
to be a colourful feast for the eyes!" Pat Waldron,
Artistic Managing Producer, recent recipient of the honourable
Sam Payne award, produces. Grab your wellies! It's
time to wander back into the wonderful world of Honk!
"...even a crotchety
curmudgeon like me was tapping his toes to many of the numbers
in this snappy show..." Peter Birnie - Vancouver
Sun
"...a three year old cutie told me, 'I liked it because
I loved it so much!' Seventeen times older than he is, I liked
Honk! too..." Colin Thomas - The Georgia Straight

Under the Stars (also known as TUTS) presents the
beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical about Anna Leonowen's
adventures in Siam as a teacher to the court of the King.
A little known fact is that after the events protrayed in

in Montreal in 1915.
This is Lannette's debut performance with TUTS, and she is
excited to dust off her dancing shoes to play one of the king's
wives. This is her second time working with Emmy
award winning director/choreographer David Connolly,
and her first chance to work with Jessie-nominated
music director, Wendy Stuart.
